Welcome back to About Town! In this issue, I’m taking you on a journey through one of the more rural Main Line towns, Berwyn.
One of my favorite spots is the Berwyn Vintage Flea Market, which is open only on weekends and hidden in a strip mall. From the outside, it appears to be a store like any other, but the minute you enter the building, you’re welcomed with quirky items for miles.
Whether you’re searching for new artwork for your room, a vintage purse, or something truly one-of-a-kind, this is the perfect spot to spend hours sifting through jewelry piles or browsing stacks of old CDs. From clothes made in the 1920s to y2k gems, this flea market is arguably the most underrated in the area.
If Berwyn Flea somehow left you empty-handed, you’re sure to have some luck at Surrey Consignment, a local store filled with antique furniture and houseware. The owner of Surrey has an exceptional eye for aesthetics, curating an incredible inventory that never fails to impress.
Once you’ve found your vintage goods for the day, it’s time to grab a bite at EmJ’s Cafe. EmJ’s is part diner, part gourmet eatery best known for their breakfast options. I’ve never had a bad meal there, but my favorite is The Elvis: French toast topped with bacon, bananas, chocolate chips, and peanut butter-honey drizzle.
Lastly, embrace Berwyn’s rural charm by exploring Jenkins Arboretum, a serene botanical garden tucked within the windy roads off of the main highway. Here, you can meet a friend for a walk on the trails or find a sunny bench to relax. And the best part is that admission is always free!
You now have your plans for the weekend! Until next time, I hope to see you about town!
