On Saturday, January 28, Baldwin’s Technology Student Association (TSA) chapter attended the Region 5 TSA conference in-person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. For old and new members alike, it was a thrilling experience to gather again and the Baldwin teams had a strong performance among the twenty competing chapters present.

TSA is a competition-oriented organization that hosts three annual conferences of advancing levels: Regionals (January), States (April), and Nationals (June). At each conference, Middle and High School students alike are invited to compete in a variety of more than 40 STEM events, each with its own nuances and themes to explore.

Students began the morning bright and early on Saturday at Colonial Middle School in Plymouth Meeting, PA. After a rush to sign up for time slots and drop-off events, the conference officially began with Katherine Smith ‘24 and Summer He ‘25 serving as Regionals Conference President and Sergeant-in-Arms, respectively.

Throughout the day, Baldwin TSA competed in a wide range of events across Engineering, Computer Science & Info Tech, Biotech, Structural Design, Architecture, Fashion, and more. Members spent the day juggling finalizing their presentations, prototypes, and documentation, tackling on-site build challenges, and preparing for interviews with judges. The events kept everyone on their toes and encouraged collaboration across the competition teams.

Aislynn Cross ‘23 said, “Fashion Design & Technology, Children’s Stories, and STEM Animation are my personal favorite events to compete in because they integrate artistic design with more traditional STEM elements.”

The eight-hour day concluded with the Awards Ceremony as well as a “Miracle Minute” event to collect funds for the American Cancer Society. In the end, the Baldwin TSA Team was well represented at Regionals with over 20 team members competing.

Baldwin students placed across ten events, including four 1st places for Data Sciences & Analytics, Geospatial Technology, Transportation Modelling, and Prepared Presentation (see full results below). Additionally, teams will be competing in events ranging from UAV Drone Challenge to Coding and more at the PA-TSA State conference in April.
